Why does my mix sound narrow?
A narrow mix feels like everything comes from the middle; start by deciding which parts belong at the sides.

Mix sounds narrow usually means the listener is noticing mix width in the full mix area. Treat it as a listening clue first, then test the likely causes in context.
Likely causes
- Too many elements are stacked near the center
- Arrangement lacks left-right contrast
- Stereo effects are too quiet or collapsing in mono
- Low-frequency width or phase issues make the image unstable
Check first
- Build width with panning and arrangement before widening plugins
- Keep lead vocal, kick, snare, and bass focused in the center
- Compare stereo width against a reference and check mono compatibility
- Use correlation or mid-side metering when widening anything important
Mixing tip
A wide mix usually has a strong center plus intentional side information. Widening everything often makes the mix smaller.
